What to make with small patterns

Keychains and bag charms

Iron lightly so a bead hole near the top edge stays open, then add a jump ring and a key ring.

Fridge magnets

Glue a small round magnet to the back. Food designs like the pizza slice and the fried egg are made for this.

Pins and badges

Glue a pin back to the flat side after ironing. The trippy designs and the frog look great on a jacket or a tote bag.

Gift tags and party favors

Small pieces are quick to make in batches. Tie one to a present, or make one for every guest at a party.

Which pegboard to use

A small square pegboard

Every pattern here is 14 × 14 beads or smaller, so it fits most small square pegboards. Small boards are cheaper and easier for little hands to hold.

Four at once on a large board

A large square pegboard is 29 × 29, so it holds four of these patterns with an empty row of pegs between them. Fill all four, then iron them together.

Even smaller with mini beads

Switch to Perler Mini, Hama Mini or Artkal C in the pattern maker. A design 14 beads wide is then only about 3.6 cm across, small enough for earrings and phone charms.

Tips for small bead projects

Place the details first

Eyes, cheeks and sprinkles are only one bead each. Put them down first, then fill in the bigger areas around them.

Keep the pieces apart

When you bead several patterns on one board, leave at least one empty peg between them so they don’t fuse together.

Iron with care

Small pieces heat up fast. Iron in short bursts and peek under the paper so they don’t melt flat.

Iron both sides

Iron the front, let it cool flat under a book, then flip it and iron the back. Keychains get handled a lot, so fuse them well.

Not sure about heat and timing? Follow our step-by-step ironing guide.

Small Perler bead pattern FAQ

What counts as a small Perler bead pattern?

Here it means 14 × 14 beads or smaller. That’s about 7 cm (2.8 in) across with regular midi beads, the size of a keychain or a fridge magnet.

How many beads does a small pattern use?

The patterns on this page use between 60 and 120 beads each, and 1,850 to make all 20. Each card lists exactly how many of each color you need.

Which small pattern is the quickest to make?

The dinosaur uses the fewest beads, just 60. The little ghost, happy cloud and avocado use three colors or fewer, so there’s very little to sort.

Will these patterns fit a small square pegboard?

Yes. Every pattern here is 14 × 14 beads or smaller, so it fits most small square pegboards. On a large 29 × 29 pegboard you can bead four at once.

What can I make with small Perler bead patterns?

Keychains, bag charms, fridge magnets, pins, gift tags and party favors. With mini beads they shrink to about half the size, small enough for earrings.

Can I use Hama or Artkal beads instead?

Yes. Hama Midi and Artkal S beads are the same size as Perler beads. Open any pattern in the pattern maker and switch the bead brand to get matching color names and codes.

Are these small patterns free?

Yes. Every pattern here is an original meltybit design, free to download and print for your own projects and gifts. No sign-up needed.
