How to use these free Perler bead patterns

Every pattern on meltybit works the same way, so once you’ve made one you can follow any of them. Here’s the whole process, from picking a design to a finished, ironed piece.

Pick a pattern and check the bead list

Each card lists every color the pattern uses, with its Perler name, color code and exact count. Check your tubs before you start, or open the pattern in the pattern maker and swap any color you’re missing for the closest one you have.

Download and print the chart

Tap “Download chart” to get a PNG chart with a number in every square and the bead list underneath. Print it on a full sheet, or keep it open on a phone or tablet next to your pegboard.

Use one large square pegboard

Every pattern fits on one large square pegboard (29 × 29 pegs). Each card also shows the size in beads and the finished size in centimeters and inches, so you can check it against a smaller or shaped board you already have.

Place the beads

One square on the chart is one bead on one peg, and an empty square means you leave that peg empty. Darker grid lines mark every five beads and the edges are numbered, so you can always find your place again.

Iron it

Cover the beads with ironing paper and iron on a medium setting with the steam off, moving in small circles until the beads join. Let the piece cool flat under a book, then iron the back the same way.

Switch bead brands if you like

Hama Midi and Artkal S beads are the same 5 mm size as Perler beads. Open any pattern in the pattern maker and switch the bead brand to get matching color names and codes.

New to ironing? Our step-by-step ironing guide covers heat, timing and how to fix beads that didn’t fuse.

What to make with your finished pieces

A fused bead piece is light, flat and sturdy, so it’s easy to turn into something you’ll actually use or give away.

Fridge magnets

Glue a small magnet on the back. Hearts, fruit and the smaller Christmas designs are just the right size, and a matching set makes a nice gift.

Keychains and bag charms

Iron both sides lightly so a bead hole near the edge stays open, then add a jump ring and a key ring. Small, chunky designs hold up best on a bag.

Ornaments and gift tags

Thread a ribbon through a built-in loop or an open bead hole and hang the piece on the tree, or tie it to a present instead of a paper tag.

Coasters, garlands and card toppers

Bigger pieces make fun coasters, while a row of small ones looks great as a garland. Glue a single piece onto a folded card for an instant handmade card.

Why every pattern here is an original design

Many bead patterns online are traced from cartoons or reposted without credit. Every pattern on meltybit is drawn by us, bead by bead, for this site.

Free for your own projects

View, download and print as many patterns as you like for yourself, your family, your class or as gifts. There’s nothing to sign up for.

No copied characters

We don’t copy characters from cartoons, games or movies. Everything here is our own work, which is also why you won’t find these exact designs anywhere else.

Tested before it’s published

Every pattern is checked to fit on one 29 × 29 pegboard and to iron into one solid piece. Beads that only touch at the corners don’t fuse, so we make sure each bead has a neighbor above, below or beside it.

Real bead colors and counts

Colors come from the actual Perler range, with color codes and exact counts, so the chart matches the beads in your tubs and you know what to buy before you start.
